CCG Victoria Base Cladding Remediation
The project involved targeted building envelope remediation at the Canadian Coast Guard Victoria Base. The scope included cleaning, sanding, sandblasting, repainting, selective cladding replacement, window reinstallation with new flashings, door refurbishment, and related sealant and fastener upgrades on the Buoy Maintenance Building. The work aimed to extend the building’s service life, address localized deterioration, improve weather resistance, and prevent future water ingress.
Work was completed on an active federal marine operations base with restricted access and heightened security. This required complex coordination with Coast Guard staff to maintain continuous operation of antennas, security cameras, and exterior lighting throughout the remediation.
Challenging access conditions around ladders, exhaust stacks, light towers, and exterior-mounted equipment were addressed using certified lift equipment and planned access routes, enabling safe reach to all building surfaces without disrupting site operations.
The team applied a highly coordinated approach suited to an occupied, operational environment, selecting appropriate treatment methods for each elevation and component. Work included the installation of new metal flashings, trims, sealants, and neoprene-washer fasteners, while hazardous materials were managed in accordance with DSS and H&S requirements.
Full compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards mandated for a federal marine base was maintained throughout the project, demonstrating EXO’s expertise in managing complex building envelope work in operational, secure environments.
