Kitchener Elementary School – 2 Storey Modular Addition
With construction well underway, the two-storey expansion at Kitchener Elementary School in Burnaby, BC will deliver 20 new classrooms along with office and support spaces, adding nearly 30,000 square feet of modern learning environments to the existing campus.
Designed by StudioHuB Architects, the addition seamlessly connects the school’s heritage-listed building to the gymnasium, reflecting the aesthetic of the existing campus while delivering modern, high-performance learning environments.
Key features of the project include a traditional glazed main entrance with an integrated elevator for accessibility and design impact, a BC Energy Step Code–compliant envelope, and stand-alone HVAC systems for each classroom. The expansion predominantly uses the EXO Building System’s Modular 2.0 Panel, which includes insulated and structural wall and roof panels that results in achieving accelerated weather‑tight envelope, while also allowing the exterior to integrate a harmonizing façades that matches the existing buildings on site.
EXO is working closely with School District 41 to minimize disruption to daily school operations while providing a durable, efficient, and future-ready facility.
