EXO Construction Group is proud to announce the commencement of construction on a two-storey classroom expansion at Kitchener Elementary School in Burnaby, BC, for School District 41. Designed by StudioHuB Architects and delivered under a hybrid progressive Design-Build approach, this 30,000 sq. ft facility will blend seamlessly with the school’s heritage-listed building while introducing modern, high-performance learning spaces to meet the district’s growing needs.
The expansion will provide 20 new classrooms, along with office and support spaces in a layout that promotes positive learning. The project showcases EXO’s proprietary Modular Panel Building System, utilizing insulated and structural wall and roof panels. With offsite manufacturing and ease of assembly, EXO is able to accelerate the completion time of the building envelope, allowing for trades to start their work earlier in the construction process.
EXO has participated in the project from the start of Pre-construction, collaborating closely with School District 41 and architects to ensure alignment with the vision and operational requirements. Key project features include BC Energy Step Code–compliant envelope systems, stand-alone per-classroom HVAC unit ventilators for independent heating and cooling, an integrated elevator, and a stunning traditional glazed main entrance for design aesthetic and impact.
